Throwing Copper Around: How Plants Control Uptake, Distribution, and Accumulation of Copper

نویسندگان

چکیده

Copper (Cu) is essential to plants but can also be harmful due Fenton chemistry. Because of that, it necessary keep Cu within a narrow concentration limit. Plants evolved mechanisms sense and precisely regulate uptake accumulation avoid both deficiency toxicity. However, experience variable levels in soils, natural environments as well human’s-based farming practices that lead soils. Therefore, we need understand homeostasis. Here, review how found soils; toxicity responses plants; the role transporters, described mainly model species such Arabidopsis thaliana Oryza sativa; crosstalk between iron (Fe) homeostasis; hyperaccumulator discuss some gaps future directions, which improve our understanding field.

Differences in Copper Absorption and Accumulation between Copper-Exclusion and Copper-Enrichment Plants: A Comparison of Structure and Physiological Responses

Differences in copper (Cu) absorption and transport, physiological responses and structural characteristics between two types of Cu-resistant plants, Oenothera glazioviana (Cu-exclusion type) and Elsholtzia haichowensis (Cu-enrichment type), were investigated in the present study. The results indicated the following: (1) After 50 μM Cu treatment, the Cu ratio in the xylem vessels of E. haichowe...

How Plants Control Arsenic Accumulation

In many parts of the world, groundwater contains so much arsenic that it builds up in irrigated crops. Linked to cancer and heart disease, this toxic element is particularly worrisome in rice, which absorbs arsenic more readily than other grains and is a staple for billions of people. Countries with the double whammy of arsenic-laced groundwater and heavy rice consumption include Bangladesh, In...

Metal(loid) uptake of Sonchus oleraceus grown around Cheshmeh-Konan copper deposit, NW Iran

Heavy metal(loid) contamination in the environment of mining areas has become an important problem. Cheshemeh-Konan is one of the main copper deposits in NW Iran that is currently abandoned. In the present work, the intensity of some metal(loid) pollutions in the soil of the mining area was assessed using three reliable indices. In addition, the potential of Sonchus oleraceus L., as th...

Gastrointestinal uptake and distribution of copper in rainbow trout.

A single dose of radioactive copper ((64)Cu or new Cu) was infused into the stomach of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to model dietary copper (Cu) uptake under conditions of a normal nutritional dose and optimum environmental temperature (16 degrees C, 0.117 microg Cu g(-)(1 )body mass). The distribution of new Cu to the gut and internal organs occurred in two phases: rapid uptake by the g...
